c-erbB-2 oncoprotein and other tissue prognostic factors in benign and malignant breast
Original language description
To the possible risk factors of relapse in breast cancer belong selected oncogenes and products of their expression. In retrospective study using breast tissue material we attempted 1) to analyze c-erbB-2 oncoprotein in breast cyst fluids of benign fibrocystic disease, in extracts of dysplastic tissues, fibroadenomas, phylloid tumors, and breast cancers, 2) to compare the results of the c-erbB-2 ELISA estimation with immunohistochemical localization, 3) to correlate these results with medical history data, with available biochemical examinations, and with preliminary results of telomerase activity determinations as a measure of immortal character of tumor tissue. The expression of c-erbB-2 oncoprotein differs significantly in benign and malignant breast tumors, the highest concentrations were found in the breast cancer group (37 % of malignant specimens were higher than cut-off value 100 kU/g protein).
