Decreased paraoxonase activity in critically ill patients with sepsis

  • Original language description

In septic patients, the arylesterase and paraoxonase 1 activities were lower as compared to controls. Both activities normalized after recovery. Arylesterase and paraoxonase activities were in the negative correlation with CRP and in the positive correlation with HDL cholesterol. These correlations offer a potentially useful marker of sepsis progress and its recovery in critically ill patients.
