Inhibitory effects of polyphenols and their colonic metabolites on CYP2D6 enzyme using two different substrates
Original language description
Polyphenolic compounds are largely metabolized in the colon by microflora in plethora of small metabolites. These metabolites are largely absorbed and can hence have systemic effects. In this paper, the interaction of some parent polyphenolic compounds and metabolites with 2D6 cytochrome was analyzed emloying two different substrates for CYP2D6. Parent compounds were in general more potent inhibitors than metabolites. The inhibition toward both substrates was not equal which means some 2D6 substrate dependence.
