Relay interpreting is a double or two-stage interpreting process, in which a source-language message is interpreted into a target language via a third language. The article in explains in which settings the relay interpreting is used (international multilingual conferences, negotiations between "rare" languages through an "international" language, in community interpreting in asylum setting, healthcare interpreting, or in interpreting for deafblind persons), the role of pivot, and the directionality ofthe relay. Includes also the most important empirical studies on relay interpreting and most important didactic recommendations.
