The role of translation in professional communication
Original language description
Communication for work purposes is framed by various professional environments, structured horizontally and vertically and built upon and within particular subject areas (e.g. selling food, repairing aircrafts). The role of translation differs not only among various professional settings but also within their individual vertical structures. The initial part of the chapter analyzes the process of translation, its types, basic translational theories and their applications relevant for translation in professional settings. The second part will be based upon a comparison of three major and different areas of professional communication: commerce, engineering and law. The use of plain language in translation will be mentioned as well as translation skills training of those professionals who may find themselves responsible for translating various pieces of information. Conclusions and general paradigms of translation in professional settings will be drawn in the final part of the chapter. Bas
