Legitimization Strategies and Japan's Multilateralism Switch

  • Original language description

The article examines the will for multilateralism that Japan has been advocating in the last two decades. It does so by presenting discursive legitimization strategies and compares them with primary Japanese discourse on two multilateral organisations -APEC and ARF. By doing so, it finds out, that moral and social legitimisation was strong in economic sphere whereas instrumental legitimization was used in security sphere.
