Original language description
This chapter presents a collaboration between Department of Art Education, Pedf Charles University and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague within a concept of Visual Literacy. In line with current trends in cultural and art education, which UPM has been pursuing in collaboration with researchers and students of the Department of Art Education, Charles University, visual perception and other modalities of perceiving museum collections in children and the youth have been in the center of interest since the 1990's. A joint research showed that it was necessary to develop a cognitive educational model that would support multimodal (multisensory) perception of a cultural artifact. This approach focuses on object-based and situated learning, and for teachers it is the basis for further elaboration of the museum education program into school projects. A case study of pre-school children's cognitive and creative activities in Museum Active Zones reveals how inspirations from the art-work of Czech artist Pravoslav Rada have been transposed into educative strategies.
