Development of baroreflex control of heart rate in children and adolescents
Original language description
The aim of the study was to investigate the development of noninvasively determined BRS in children and young adults. 467 healthy subjects (11 - 21 years) were examined and divided into 11 age-subgroups according to the age. Beat-to-beat values of interbeat intervals (IBI), systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure were measured, and their power spectra were calculated. BRS was age-independent in this group. There were estimated limits of BRS for the whole group: 5th percentile - 3.9 ms/mmHg; 50th - 9.0; 95th - 19.4. Significant relationship was found between BRS and mean IBI (r = 0.44) with increase of IBI 20 ms/year (11-17 years), and 8 ms/year (18-21 y). BRSf decreased significantly with age (r = -0.35), the average decrease was 0.9 mHz/mmHg per year. The age-dependent decline of BRSf (mHz/mmHg) is present, but BRS (ms/mmHg) did not change with age in children and young adults.
