Development of the spine following pinealectomy or sensorimotor cortical area damage.
Original language description
The spine development was assessed in growing rats following pinealectomy or partial sensorimotor cortical area damage. Four experimental groups of a total 68 Wistar albino rats aged 3-4 weeks were operated - pinealectomy, sensorimotor cortical area damage, shame operations - craniotomy or craniotomy and durotomy. The rats were evaluated 4 months after surgery by X-rays and histological examination of the brain. Scoliosis of 9-14 degrees was developed in 5 out of 22 animals after pinealectomy and in 8 out of 24 animals (10-24 degrees) after sensorimotor cortical area damage. The scolioses were non structural. The scoliosis could be caused by a disorder between inhibitory and facilitating areae of central nervous system. The new hypothesis of scoliosisaetiology was introduced.
