On English poetry and language integrated teaching and learning.
Original language description
There are many benefits of applying CLIL/LLIL methodology in the classroom. It is essential to include more strategies to support understanding and learning. The author presents a poetry lesson which includes both language and subject learning needs, highlighting that English poems offer a rich, varied repertoire and can be a source of much enjoyment for both teacher and learner. English poems are considered a valuable authentic material, they offer an insight into the distinct literary world generatedby the particular culture, they provide the learner with more subtle and creative uses of the language and its structures, they create opportunities for the learner?s self-expression and interpretation, thus exploiting their communicative skills. Workingwith poetry in the classroom can also lead to developing critical thinking and creative writing since poems evoke strong emotions and responses.
