A Practical Guide to Creative Approach to Language Teaching
Original language description
This paper shares experience with an implementation of Creative Approach to Language Teaching (CALT) to the university classroom. It offers a practice - oriented insight into the approach used in the range of academic language competencies on the level of single tasks, series of activities and whole courses. The CALT concept is based on theories that define creativity in the context of language as a natural component of learning. It has been tested and implemented in a variety of courses in four languages (English, Czech, Spanish and French) since 2009. It concentrates on general areas such as creative situations, creative processes and creativity barriers, as well as specific skills such as fluency, flexibility, originality or elaboration. Feedback from both teachers and learners indicates that courses respecting CALT principles tend to beorganised in a learner-centred and community-of-practice style and encourage flexibility of language courses across disciplines.
