Design and Compilation of a Corpus of Non-Native Legal Texts
Original language description
The aim of the paper is to describe the process of designing and compiling a corpus of legal English texts written by non-native speakers, which will be a starting point for a contrastive analysis of native and non-native legal English texts. The paper compares the possibilities and effort required to obtain translated texts and non-translated texts drafted by non-native speakers. It also addresses corpus representativeness and types of legal documents used, while taking into account the differences inlegal systems and resulting difficulties in distinguishing between purely linguistic features and features stemming from culture-bound concepts. Finally, the paper deals with legal and confidentiality issues related to this kind of texts.
