Presented study is the first attempt to break down a long lasting period of non-production in the area of gifted psychology in the Czech Republic. It comes out of broadly composed research, conducted at Masaryk university Brno, concerning psychological characteristics and needs of gifted and highly gifted children. Our research is oriented toward: - a psychological identification of young intellectually gifted children in their first elementary school year, which will consequently serve as a basis for the longitudinal developmental research of young Czech gifted population, - with the main respect to social and emotional adjustment of selected individuals.
