    Environmental processes: New practical course.

  • Original language description

Basic properties of persistent organic pollutants, distribution processes in environment, transport within and among compartments, biotic and abiotic transformation processes and effects on living organisms including human have to be considered in orderto predict the fate of environmental pollutants. Laboratory simulation of the processes that control chemical behaviour of organic compounds in environment is often needed for better understanding, and for determination of basic characteristics requiredfor successful environmental modelling. However, laboratory courses providing M.S. students with experience in necessary techniques are still very rare. Aim of this project was to prepare new practical course for M.S. students in environmental chemistry. The broad scope of the course includes experiments focused on phase equilibria, partitioning and distribution coeficients, as well as biotic and abiotic transformation, and bioaccumulation studies.
