The aim of this paper is to provide a conceptual basis for addressing need of the teaching the Strategic Human Resources Management subject in sport management study programs. The paper offers an overview of the various approaches regarding the determination of the HR managers' competences in general and in sport management particularly. On the basis of this, the paper suggests of how to embed, using appropriate teaching and learning methods, the strategic focus in teaching the Human Resources in sport management studies. The case study from Czech Republic is presented based on the qualitative analysis of the students’ assignments using coding techniques and the Atlas.ti software.
