Expression analysis of microRNAs in relation to the chemoradioresistance of glioblastoma
Original language description
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most frequent primary malignant brain tumor with very poor prognosis. Despite an optimal treatment composed of a maximal surgical resection followed an intense concomitant chemoradiotherapy with temozolomide and adjuvant temozolomide, the median of overall survival remains only 12-15 months from diagnosis. Because of a different response to treatment, it is very important to find new biomarkers that can be used in prediction of a clinical outcome in GBM patients, whounderwent chemoradiotherapy. MicroRNAs are highly conserved, small, non-coding RNAs that function as post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression. Therefore, these molecules play key role in pathogenesis of many cancers, including GBM.
