Highly Gifted Pupils in Learning English at Basic School through the Lens of English Language Teacher Education
Original language description
The chapter explores the issue of giftedness in the context of implementation of Framework Education Programme through the lens of English language teacher education. The theoretical part focuses on the issues which are crucial for future teachers, namely on different approaches to the study of giftedness and on questions related to the identification and education of the gifted. In concord with the principles of inclusive education, a consistent application of internal differentiation seems to be crucial. A small-scale research project carried out in the context of the clinical year, a long-term teaching practice of students in the English Language Teacher Education study programme at the University of Pardubice, yielded unfavourable results. In the light of the research outcomes the issue of the education of the gifted at Basic School nowadays seems to be a tension between what is desired and what is realistic and achievable.
