New possibilities of fire protection of tunnel walls
Original language description
Underground constructions such as tunnels and subways are becoming more significant nowadays. Therefore it is important to pay attention for their designing with respect to the serviceability and durability. One of important and still actual problems inunderground constructions is fire protection. If fire occurs for example in road tunnel, the temperature rises immediately, mainly due to chimney effect, up to 1000 - 1200 C. Such high temperatures cause an undesirable fast degradation of concrete made ffrom Portland cement, connected with compressive strength decrease, cracking and spalling. This paper deals with a possibility of subsidiary fire protection (for example with wall covering) using a material based on alkali-activated slag. This material is more resistant against high temperatures, especially against shock loading, than Portland cement concretes. In the experiments we examined and compared the behaviour and properties of concrete specimens made from Portland cement and alk
