Utilisation of alkali activated aluminosilicates as fire protecting materials
Original language description
Portland cement concrete is the most common and widespread material for constructions. However, its undesirable fast degradation, when exposed to very high temperature, connected with compressive strength decrease, cracking and spalling limits the utilisation of concrete in constructions endangered by fire. This paper deals with a possibility of subsidiary fire protection using a material based on alkali-activated aluminosilicate (AAAS). This material is more resistant against high temperatures, especially against shock loading, than Portland cement concretes. In the experiments we examined and compared the behaviour and properties of concrete specimens made from Portland cement and AAAS after shock treatment at the temperatures of 1000 and 1200 C. Theinfluence of aggregates, comparing quartz sand and electrical porcelain, was also examined.
