Contribution of Hevylite assays by patients with monoclonal gammopathy
Original language description
Introduction: Detection of monoclonal immunoglobulin in biochemical laboratories is based on the use of serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) and immunofixation electrophoresis (IFE) and newly on determination of intact immunoglobulin molecule by HevyliteTM assay. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the values of HevyliteTM with know results for serum protein electrophoresis (SPE), the concentrations of immunoglobulins (Ig) vs. specific pairs of HLC and their deriving ratios (HLCR) with freelight chain ratios (FLCR). Methods: Blood samples were taken from 67 patients with multiple myeloma, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and different immunoproliferative disorders. The monoclonal components were detected by serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) and identified by serum immunofixation (IFE). Serum immunoglobulins were determined by nephelometric assay, free light chains (FLC) and heavy/light chains (HLC) by turbidimetric assay. For statistical analysis
