THE INFLUENCE OF ANTIBIOTICS AND GELATINE ON CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF ISO 5832-1, ISO 5832-9 AND ISO 5832-12
Original language description
The most widely used implant materials today are metals. The metallic materials used to manufactury implants include e.g. stainless steels, cobalt alloys and ever more often titanium and its alloys. The usage of alloys in medicine brings the increased requirements on their properties. A major problem faced by implants is their susceptibility to localized corrosion (pitting, crevice) which is influenced by a number of factors. This paper deals with influence of antibiotics and proteins on the corrosion behavior of two type stainless steel and Co-Cr alloy. The potentiodynamic curves and the susceptibility of materials to non-uniform corrosion (ASTM F746-87) were measured. Tests showed that addition of gelatine and antibiotics into solution influences thecorrosion behavior of materials.
