Selected aspects of crack closure phenomenon in experimental reality
Original language description
The following aspects are addressed in the contribution: (i) experimental methods of crack closure measurement, indicating possible sources of incorrect results, (ii) danger of a considerable reduction of threshold values of K-factor range of structuralsteels in oil environment due to reduction of oxide induced closure caused by fretting corrosion, (iii) favourable effects of corrosion induced closure during fatigue crack growth (FCG) in corrosive environments, which can predominate over corrosion fatigue growth mechanisms themselves, (iv) anomalies in FCG threshold region at high temperature and low load frequency in superalloys due to oxide induced closure and (v) plasticity induced closure in Al-alloys and pipeline steel welds.
