Code-Switching
Original language description
This article provides an overview of the theoretical understandings and practical illustrations of code-switching, focusing on Slavic languages, communities, and case studies. It is a phenomenon in the speech of bilinguals combining grammatical and lexical resources of their languages according to factors defining social situations of language usage (Blom and Gumperz 1972). Code-switching theorists analyze grammatical, lexical, and discourse structures that result from code-switching behaviors and question code-switchers’ motivation.
