Breeding forage and grain legumes to increase EU and China protein self-sufficiencyd grain legumes to increase EU and China protein self-sufficiency
Original language description
The title of this short post is the same as the international Horizon2020 project, launched in September 2017. The main objective is to reduce Europe's and China's dependence on protein feed and food imports by developing effective breeding strategies for the most economically important types of leguminous feed for human nutrition. The aim of the project is also to contribute to crop diversification, increase productivity, yield stability and protein quality both in forage (red clover and alfalfa) as well as in legumes (peas, beans and soybeans).
