Determining the properties of anion-exchange membranes with weak ion-exchange resin under different pH
Original language description
The aim of this study was to determine the basic properties, including permselectivity, areal resistance along with specific resistance and physical properties of ion exchange membranes which are made of weak base ion exchange resins. The properties of this type of ion exchangers have not been thoroughly studied. Both the pH and the type of used solution influence transport characteristics of these ion exchange resins, therefore all the mentioned properties of ion exchange membranes were tested at different pH ranging from 0.10 to 12.77. The samples have been conditioned in the same solutions. Resistance values of ion exchange membranes were measured by the differential method, and for permselectivity measurement we used Hittorf’s method. The transport number of the counter-ions and the electrical resistance of the membrane are the most important properties in electrodialysis and electrolysis. The aim was also to determine appropriate conditions for testing electrodialysis unit.
