Original language description
Bipolar membranes are used in electro-membrane technologies, which are produced acids and hydroxides of the respective salts. Properties of bipolar membranes significantly affect both electrodialysis process itself, as well as construction electrodialyser. The aim of the present study is to compare three types of bipolar membranes. The first membrane was the basis for both of the following. It is a heterogeneous extruded membrane is made to a co-extrusion line. The second membrane sample was in the press Reinforced by two polypropylene fabric. The third sample was treated in the press under the same conditions as above except that the reinforcing fabric was not used. The prepared membranes were compared to dimensions and weight changes during swelling, electrochemical properties and resulting parameters of technological tests of the device-Z EDBM. Use of the reinforcing fabric in the bipolar membrane greatly affects the direction of the swelling of the membrane. While non-reinforced membranes more swell on the surface, reinforced membranes swell much in thickness. This significantly changes their transport properties that affect both the shape of the curve volt-ampere characteristics and the results of technological tests. Membranes reinforced fabric tests show higher efficiency and lower energy consumption by 23% than repressing membrane. Transport of salts per unit area of the membrane for both types of membranes same. Extruded membrane without subsequent repressing exhibits in all parameters significantly worse values.
