MONITORING THE DECREASE OF CHLORINE DIOXIDE CONCENTRATION IN SOLUTION DURING TESTS OF RESISTANCE OF ION-EXCHANGE MEMBRANES RALEX®

  • Original language description

Samples of RALEX® anion-exchange and cation exchange membranes were prepared to determine electrochemical properties and ion-exchange capacity. Membrane samples were placed in five 5-liter flasks (four different concentrations of ClO2 and one blank with demineralized water). ClO2 solutions were prepared by diluting commercially available Clorious2 (Brenntag GmbH), which is supplied at a concentration of 0.6%. The planned average concentrations of ClO2 were 0.15 ppm, 0.30 ppm, 0.6 ppm and 3.0 ppm. Every working day, ClO2 concentration in individual vessels was monitored spectrophotometrically using HACH cuvette assays. Thereafter was added the product Clorious2 so as to achieve the desired average concentration of ClO2 in solution. Each week, samples of the membranes were taken from each container for further analysis and new solutions were prepared. Concentration dependence was determined for the initial chlorine dioxide concentration and exposure time.
