    Methods of characterization of ion exchange resins for electrodeionisation

  • Original language description

    Selectivity coefficient is a measure of preference of the ion exchange resin for a certain ion. This property influences the kinetics of ion exchange, i.e. the demineralization performance of EDI modules. A conductometric method of measurement of the Cl-/OH- selectivity coefficient of the strong base anion exchange resin has been developed as an alternative to a conventional method. The purpose of the the new method is to provide results quicker, without the need for titration and other chemical analyses such as ion chromatography and therefore cheaper. The goal of this work was to determine reversible swelling of several types and manufacturing lots of strong acid cation and strong base anion exchange resins and to optimize a newly introduced conductometric method of measurement of the Cl-/OH- selectivity coefficient of the strong base anion exchange resin.
