Periodically arranged tin and tin oxide nanoparticles

  • Original language description

This paper presents fabrication of highly organized nanostructured tin and tin oxide layers on planar silica substrates by a combination of nanospheric lithography and PVD tin deposition. A template mask was prepared by a self-assembly of carboxylated polystyrene (PS) nanoparticles (NPs) of 200 and 600nm diameters by dip-coating method. The process of the mask assembly was optimized, and well reproducible deposition of an organized mono and bilayers of PS nanoparticles was achieved in several tens square millimeters. Vacuum evaporation of tin and a subsequent mask displacement using an ultrasonic bath resulted in highly organized, triangular or hexagonally arranged arrays of tin NPs. The diameter, shape, and the interparticle distance varied dependingon the type of the mask used. Almost spherical NPs were prepared by a treatment of the nanostructured surfaces in RF argon plasma. Subsequently, tin oxide nanostructured layers were obtained by plasma oxidation in an Ar/O2 mixture. Both t
