This presentation was made at an international jointed workshop of OECD NEA working groups WGRISK and WGIAGE on the topics of ?PSA of natural external hazards including earthquakes?, Prague June 17-19th, 2013. The methods, history and practice of using probabilistic safety assessment for modeling the risk impact of external hazards is described in the publication. The most important challenges in the new area of external hazards risk assessment are listed and discussed, as they were specified during long lasting debates of PSA experts. The presentation served as one of the inputs to the official OECD NEA report focusing on the problems of risk analysis of external events in the OECD countries.
