Computational Simulation of the Behavior of Biodiesel and Its Blends and Pure Non-esterified Vegetable Oils in a Common Rail Diesel Engine Fuel Injection System
Original language description
The processes taking place in the Common Rail high-pressure diesel engine fuel injection system were simulated for petroleum diesel fuel, methylester of rapeseed oil, its blends with diesel fuel, and non-esterified rapeseed and soybean oils. The motivation was the differences in the alternative fuels properties such as density, bulk modulus and viscosity, and their changes with pressure and temperature. Total mass of fuel injected, multiple injection ability, and shifts in the timing of the main injection were investigated with respect to the fuel temperatures. The results show only a small decrease in the fueling rates for the pure methylester, and negligible difference for methylester blends, with no apparent effect of the fuel temperature. For the non-esterified oils, the timing of the main injection was delayed by tenths of a crankshaft angle degree, and the mass fueling rates were decreased by 5-47%, with the effects decreasing with increasing fuel temperature and with decreasing
