Quasi-Yarn Applications in Nonwovens Production

Quasi-yarn is formed by twisting of fibre ends, which are protruding from the surface of textile material; mainly it can be used on fleece surfaces. Attempts were made to use quasi-yarn in nonwovens production and they show to be useful not only forfleeces fixation, but for lamination of textile products also. Application of quasi-yarns on vertically lapped fleeces makes us possible to develop new types of nonwovens, like corrugated, hollow and special mattresses. This paper elucidates about theparameters for quasi-yarn manufacturing, technological problems and characters of quasi-yarns. Differences among fibre structures of products made by the quasi-yarns application on the fleeces and products made by classical methods are also mentioned.Machine used for making samples is explained in detail and basic relations among technological parameters and geometrical parameters of products are shown. Selected models of products are presented and further development is mentioned.
