Impact of needle size on sewing needle temperature
Original language description
In this article impact of needle size on sewing needle temperature is measured by thermocouple. Two methods are used, inserted thermocouple method and touch method. The Lock stitch machine (Brother, DD7100-905) is run at its maximum speed of 4700RPM withstitch length of 12 SPI and temperature is measured by thermocouple touched to the surface of needle and secondly thermocouple is inserted inside the groove of needle to measure needle temperature after periodic 10,20 and 30 seconds of sewing.2/1 twill100%cotton denim fabric with 257GSM with two layers were used and it was observed that increasing needle size causes the increase of sewing needle temperature and comparing both method of temperature measurement, the inserted method shows less deviationand higher temperature as compared to touch method. Finally it was observed that smaller needle size takes less time to cool down as compare to thicker needles, and thicker needles have more damage on the sewing thread when sewing stops.
