Original language description
Silica nanofibers represent sufficient choice for tissue engineering due to their physical and chemical stability, hydrophilic nature and biocompatibility. This promising nanomaterial has already been successfully tested for application in some fields oftissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Very promising is its application in wound dressing requiring a good cell adhesion to the nanofibres, which can be achieved via surface functionalization of raw silica nanofibres. The aim of this work is toverify a surface bioactive coating as a mean to improve cell adhesion to silica nanofibers and sustain enhanced proliferation and viability. Two different types of bioactive coating were applied and subsequently, their effects on cell adhesion and proliferation characteristics were tested in vitro on animal and human cell lines.
