Comparison of failure mechanisms of the weld joints of P91 and P92 steels during the long-term creep testsComparison of failure mechanisms of the weld joints of P91 and P92 steels during the long-term creep tests

  • Original language description

One-side trial weld joints of W type were prepared from pipes of P91 and P92 type steels using GTAW & SMAW method in conditions used in idustrial praxis. Long-term creep tests to the rupture of smooth cross-weld samples have been carried out, the longesttime to rupture of 45,811 hrs was achieved. The creep strengths of weld joints for 100,000 hrs were calculated. Fractographic analysis, hardness measurement and study of microstructure have been performed. Changes of microstructure were correlated withthe creep strength. Different types of cracking were observed in dependency on conditions of creep test and the type of weld joint. This contribution deals with an assessment of failure mechanisms of the weld joints. An occurrence of individual types offracture is correlated with incoming properties of weldments and with development of substructure during creep tests. In P91 steel weld joint Type I and Type II fractures occurred at high applied stresses at relatively low temperatures, w
