Track Trials of a New Design of an Eniveromentally Friendly Bogie
Original language description
In ZEVrail Journal. The submission of glass fibre plastic for steel as the bogie frame material converts the rigid bogie into a flexible bogie able to conform to the alignment of the track. This material change also enables the suspension and damping functions to be integrated within the the bogie frame. As such a novel design has not previously been track tested, the full-scale design was scaled to 600 mm gauge and tested on Welsh Highland Railway tracks. Both static and dynamic forces have been reduced while the higl level of intrnal damping has enabled vibration and noise emissions also to be reduced.
