Performance of synthetic air gaseous insulation near the limiting homogenity – final report 2017

  • Original language description

This research report deals with performance of synthetic air gaseous insulation near the limiting homogeneity. In previous research co-operation between SE and ZCU numerous tests have been performed to describe the dielectric behavior of strong inhomogeneous arrangements at various gas pressures. It was found that partial discharge inception is a key process in developing of a predictive model for dielectric strength of that insulation type. It was also obtained, that at some parameter combination an increased dispersion of the breakdown values occurs mainly caused by the pre-discharge behavior. Besides that it was of interest if the obtained trends are valid even at higher values of gas pressure, therefore, further investigations were agreed. The agreed cooperation period had two main targets: Breakdown behavior at AC test voltage including PD measurement and Breakdown behavior at Lightning Impulse test voltage. All investigations should be performed at gas pressure (2 bar ≤ p ≤ 4 bar), test arrangement tip – sphere with tip- radius (4/ 2/ 0.5) mm and different gap distance (40/ 60/ 90) mm. The test procedure should be the same like in the previous measurement at the gas mixture 20/ 80 (O2/N2).
