Researching and Politicizing Migration: The Case of Roma/Gypsies in Postsocialist Czecho-slovakia
Original language description
In his chapter, the author first analyses how the Roma/Gypsies and their migrations have been represented in the imagination of Western sedentary societies. Then the author tackles down how such representations have been affecting actions toward the Roma, and how such representations affect the scientific research agenda. The author asserts that research on Roma migrations has been shaped by a particular "politics of identity" and that it has therefore been vulnerable to see, and thus to focus only on selected forms of Roma migration (such as asylum migration), while overlooking or ignoring other forms of migration (such as "networking migration").
