  • Original language description

The chapter presents research conducted as part of the project “Vocational Foreign Language for Construction and Carpentry with the implementation of digital learning. Builders, let’s go!” at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Czechia, from 2019 to 2022. The research employed questionnaire surveys and semi-structured interviews conducted in two phases. Initially, the project aimed to explore the expectations of teachers and students regarding the development of teaching materials for foreign languages for specific purposes (LSP), specifically focusing on the construction field of study, including Russian. It is important to note that teaching foreign languages for specific purposes is a part of the Czech educational curriculum for secondary vocational education. The second phase involved reviewing ready-made teaching materials. The results confirmed that content-based instruction (CBI) played a more significant role in teaching LSP than initially assumed. Furthermore, LSP teaching enabled teachers and students to expand their professional knowledge and competence in their respective fields, which was identified as one of the major benefits of the teaching materials. Throughout the creation process, the chapter also observes and interprets the spontaneous shift of the teaching materials towards a more content-based instruction approach (CBI). Overall, the research sheds light on the effectiveness and importance of CBI in teaching LSP, emphasizing its impact on students’ professional development and expanding their knowledge in the construction field.
