Application of stickaround app in natural history lessons in grammar schools
Original language description
Interconnections of modern technologies and educational system are increasing. Use of mobile devices in education is not and exception. Pupils either use their own devices (BYOD) or they borrow it from a school. The developers of educational apps are still introducing new tools to work with. In this article we will present StickAround app. This app is available for iOS devices only. It can be used to create work papers, in which the pupils move labels with answers to the right places. The app does not have any content of its own which means the teacher can create work papers on any school subject he or she wants. We tested this app in 4th, 6th and 9th grade of grammar school, all children from 9 to 15 years of age. The testing always took place in natural history lessons. The pupils filled out the work papers oriented to their level of natural history. After thorough introduction of the app, they filled out an electronic questionnaire. Using a questionnaire helped us to find out if the app helped pupils to memorize the curriculum better and whether working with the app is enjoyable or not. We also monitored if the app is more likely to motivate younger or older children of our research. The results of our research will be introduced in the following article. Generally we can say that the StickAround app was welcomed by the children and they consider it a good tool to practice the curriculum. The opinion of research team (young pupils will be more interested in the app) was confirmed.
