Original language description
Background: The article focuses on the issue of manipulation in interpersonal relationships and its impact on psycho-social health. The objective is to define psycho-social health, to characterize the signs and forms of manipulative behavior, to clarify the relationship between manipulation and psycho-social health, to describe the unfavorable psychological states caused by long-term exposure to manipulation, to characterize coping strategies for manipulative behavior, and to clarify the importance of spirituality in fostering psycho-social health. Methods:Abstracting and comparing facts from information sources, redefining the issue under review, generalizing available information and drawing conclusions. Results: Psychosocial health is an integral part of a holistic view of health. It depends on the quality of interpersonal relationships in the social environment. Manipulative forms of behavior are one of the risk factors for disrupting the balance between the social environment and the human psyche. Long-term manipulation can lead to the onset of undesirable psychological conditions: psycho-reactive disorders, neurotic disorders and psychosomatic diseases. Resistance to manipulation is determined by frustration tolerance, a person‘s self-concept and the level of social skills mastered. An important aspect for coping with manipulation and enhancing psychosocial health is the spiritual dimension of the person.
