Investigation of the electro-chemical couplings in bone tissue
Original language description
The electro-chemical couplings are supposed to play an important role in the mechanotransduction of bone remodelling. The aim of this study is to investigate of these electro-chemical phenomena occurring in living bone. A coupled modelling of bone tissueis carried out using a periodic homogenization procedure. Based on a description of coupled ow within bone tissue and a study of piezomaterials, this approach combines the electrokinetics effects involved in interstitial bone uid ow with the piezoelectric behaviour of the collagen apatite matrix. We present appropriate simulations of the bone response to physiologically relevant mechanical loading conditions. This contribution will enable to asses the importance of electro-osmosis and piezoelectricityin the perspective of the transduction of bone remodelling signals.
