Macroscopic modeling of electro-osmosis in the porous structure of a cortical bone tissue
Original language description
Porous structures are commonly found in a wide scale of biological tissues, where multiple physical phenomena may occur. In our recent work we focus on the electro-osmosis phenomena in the cortical bone tissue, but similar approach can be applied on other biological tissues or in geoscience. We present a model of ionic transport in the network of small channels saturated with an electrolyte solution and perforating the osteonal wall. The channels wall is charged with small negative charge, thus the ionsin the bone fluid are subjected to a small static electric field. On this model we apply asymptotic homogenization method. On the arising effective coefficients, which describe the material properties at macroscopic level in the derived macroscopic equations, a parametric study is performed.
