Reflections on the results of International comparative Studies
Original language description
The purpose of international comparative studies should not be only the comparison of pupils achievement but the improvement of the quality of education and mathematical and general literacy. We believe that the failure in solving concrete test items iscaused by various reasons. We assigned to forty 10-years-old pupils seven released test items from the TIMSS 1995 study. Based on concrete examples of children's explanations of their solutions we illustrate some of their misunderstandings, obstacles, causes of their failure.
