Larvae of the aphidophagous coccinellid Cheilomenes sexmaculata (F.) mark their tracks with an oviposition-deterring pheromone. (Z)-pentacos-12-ene was identified as an active component of the cuticular hydrocarbons present in tracks and in chloroform extract of C. sexmaculata (F.) first instars. The alkaloid coccinelline, constituting up to 95 % of the extract, and saturated hydrocarbons pentacosane, heptacosane and nonacosane that occured in significant amounts in larval tracks, were individually tested but proved to be inactive. The synthesis of (Z)-pentacos-12-ene is reported.

Czech description
Larvy afidofágního slunéčka Cheilomenes sexmaculata (F.) zanechávají ve svých stopách kladení odpuzující feromon. Bylo zjištěno, že aktivní složkou spektra kutikulárních uhlovodíků, které jsou přítomny ve stopách larev i v chloroformovém extraktu prvníchinstarů C. sexmaculata (F.) je (Z)-pentacos-12-en. Alkaloid coccinelline, který tvořil až 95 % semiochemických látek přítomných v extraktu, ani nasycené a individuálně testované uhlovodíky pentacosan, heptacosan a nonacosan, které byly dalšími významněji zastoupenými komponenty extraktu, nebyly aktivní. V publikaci je popsán postup syntézy (Z)-pentacos-12-enu.
