Oligonucleotide probes that hybridise with the 18S rRNA of Neoparamoeba pemaquidensis, N. branchiphila and N. perurans were used to examine archival histological blocks from AGD affected fish (samples of four cultured fish species from 6 countries). N. perurans was found to be an exclusive agent of AGD in four host species.

Czech description
Oligonukleotidové próby hybridizující s 18S rRNA Neoparamoeba pemaquidensis, N. branchiphila a N. perurans byly použity pro vyšetření archivních histologických bločků z žaberních lezí působených amébami r. Neoparamoeba u 4 druhů rybích hostitelů z 6 různých zemí. Hybridizace in situ prokázaly, že N. perurans je kosmopolitně rozšířeným, exkluzivním původcem AGD.
