Guanine quadruplexes in the RNA genome of the tick tick-borne encephalitis virus: their role as a new antiviral target and in virus biology
Original language description
Guanine quadruplexes (G4s) are non-canonical secondary structures in nucleic acids1,2. This study identified seven potential G4-forming sequences within the RNA genome of the tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), specifically located in the C, NS1, NS4b, and NS5 genes, as well as the 3′-UTR (ref.3). Biophysical methods confirmed the ability of five of these sequences to form stable monomolecular G4 structures. All the G4s observed were parallel-stranded.
