Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), a flavivirus causing severe central nervous system (CNS) disease, leads to long-term neurological complications. This study aimed to investigate the contribution of non-neuronal neurovascular unit (NVU) cells to blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction and neuroinflammation during TBEV infection, and to evaluate the role and therapeutic potential of the viral non-structural protein 1 (NS1).
