Penetrating of steel Hardox plate by rifle projectile with lead core
Original language description
The article deals with the results of experiments with shooting weapon systems of a high ballistic performance and with Finite Element Method simulation of the projectiles penetration upon the steel plate using the software Ansys Autodyn. For shooting experiments, a HARDOX 450 plate of the thickness of 10 mm which is given ballistic limit of 6500 J was used. For shooting to sheet the projectile with full metal jacket (FMJ) bullet Lock Base and hollow point (HP) projectile Scenar (both 338 Lapua Magnum)were chosen as well as a hollow point ammunition Diamond Line (308 Win Norma) and armour-piercing incendiary (API) ammunition 7.62 x 54R (Sellier & Bellot). The experiments carried out have found out that the sheet metal plate does not meet ballistic resistance to impact of non penetrating bullets in the perpendicular line and slightly sloping direction of the impact. The numerical simulations show a partial correspondence with experimental results. Influencing factors are discussed.
