Original language description
Both species of the family Acartophthalmidae occurring in Czech Republic have been found in the study area. They are widely saprophagous (A. bicolor is predominantly necrophagous, cf. OZEROV 1987) preferring forested habitats, which is in accordance withlocalities where they have been found in the area under study. A. bicolor was formerly scarcely recorded from the Czech Republic (cf. MÁCA & ROHÁČEK 1983; ROHÁČEK 1995) but it is not rare in fact (a number of unpublished records are now available from the country) on carrion even at lower altitudes.
